The John Farson House, also known as Pleasant Home, joined the nation's elite sites as a National Historic Landmark in June 1996. The Pleasant Home Foundation, established as a non-profit organization in 1990, is dedicated to preserving and restoring this 30-room architectural jewel. The Foundation strives to create a home which is a dynamic museum and a lasting tribute to Maher.

Pleasant Home

Pleasant Home provides an exciting opportunity to learn about the history and architecture of Oak Park in the early 20th century expressed through the lives of the Farson and Mills families, the home's early owners, and architect George W. Maher.

Mills Park

Pleasant Home was built in a seven acre lot near central Oak Park, at the corner of Pleasant Street and Home Avenue. Its second owners were the Mills family, who later sold the land to the Oak Park Park District. It is now a very beautiful park for walking or playing Frisbee, a sport which John Farson would have surely enjoyed!
