A Vintage Wedding

November 1, 2005  A Vintage Wedding: Program at the Oak Park Public Library

Interested in learning more about what brides wore during the Roaring Twenties, the Depression, World War II or even the Retro Fifties?  Join writer Mary Beth Klatt for a fascinating evening of slides on Tuesday, November 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the Oak Park Public Library Veteran's Room, 834 Lake St., Oak Park.

This walk down the aisles of vintage weddings includes old photographs of brides on their special day accompanied by the music of the era, whether it's swing music with Count Basie from the 1930s, Tommy Dorsey big band tunes from the 1940s, or rocking with Elvis Presley in the 1950s.  And, let's not forget the Beatles during the 1960s.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own special wedding-day pictures to share.  Vintage wedding gowns from the different eras will be on display as well.

Mary Beth Klatt is a journalist who has written extensively about vintage fashion for various publications, including "Old is New in Wedding Gowns" for the Christian Science Monitor.

This program is co-sponsored by the Oak Park Public Library and The Historical Society of Oak Park and River Forest, and is free and open to the public.  Call 708-386-9032 for more information.
