The Cheney Mansion was designed by architect Charles E. White, Jr. in 1913 for the Sharpe family. It derives its name from Elizabeth Cheney, who inherited the property in 1945 as the neice of the second owners Andrew and Mary Dole; Cheney deeded the mansion to the Park District of Oak Park in 1975. |
| The Cheney Mansion is one of Charles White, Jr.'s most important works, with 12,000 square feet interior space, six bedrooms, seven bathrooms, mulitple reception rooms and parlours, and a separate servants quarters. White was also the architect for the Oak Park Post Office Building. The mansion is owned and managed by the Park District as a self-supporting facility. Set back within two acres of beautifully landscaped grounds and gardens, it is are a favorite locale for Spring and Summer weddings, private parties and social events.
