Manley Stacey Civil War Letters

   September 16, 1862

 

Barracks No 3 Genl [Quinby], told when I shall go to to hear from soon  
Elmira Sep 16th one of the Officers that the City, probably tomor- I will write to [Clifton]  
10 AM we should stay here row.  We are having after Tuesday  
Dear Father most of the Winter.  This easier times now, Hoping you are  
I arrived I can't see.  I heard not near as much all well, with  
at Camp all night some of the Officers Duty,  If you should love to all  
yesterday, at 11,30 AM, & talking yesterday, about come to Watkins to Manley  
had no trouble at all Recruiting, they said Preach, I can get    
about being over time if we dont recruit a 2 Day Pass & come    
Things are moving to fill up, That these down,  The Boys are    
along the same as men would be sent getting them often now    
usual here.  We have to the Towns where I think we shall get our    
now got about 200 their Co's were raised Pay, tomorrow    
men here & more are & open Recruiting Of- on Saturday, things    
coming in  Yesterday fices,  This would suit look like it now    
the Dft'd men of Elmira me, tip top.  I do not Mr Hollitt did not    
were examined so think men would come up on the Train    
we soon shall have be sent from the yesterday, Today I    
some of them,  Things Army, to recruit, while am resting out as    
look but little like we were here.  Our I have got pretty    
leaving here now Doing it would save tired in my last    
  a great deal expense weeks running around    
  I do not know I shall expect
