Manley Stacey Civil War Letters

   November 10, 1862 (to Father)

Camp Douglas here today, about our being    
Nov 10th Exchanged, the boys are [   ]    
Monday night of this & are giving up coming    
6 PM home.  We are waiting very anx-    
My letter did not get down ious to hear any news.  One thing    
to the PO in time to send in makes it look like it is    
the morning, so I laid it over we are making a requisition    
till tomorrow morning. I came for more Clothes  That I think    
of [sic] Guard this morning at 9 AM looks like going into service    
& have been trying to sleep all again
day.  To night at 5 PM, we had Hoping to hear from    
Dress Parade & our Promotions You soon    
were read.  [Harvey] Warren Manley Stacy    
was reduced to 5th Sergeant      
& a Dutchman by the name      
of Louis Dryer, was promoted      
from 6 Corporal to 3rd Sergeant      
It makes me so mad to think      
a Dutchman over me. he can      
talk hardly plain yet.  I am      
promoted to 5th Corporal, a Big      
Thing.  One of the Corporals put in      
are [ ][    ] of Lodus, to 7th  
& S S Rogers of Lyons to 8th  
There is a great deal of talk
